Anna Cocilovo’s journey in medicine
and healing began at the University of Wisconsin, Madison’s physician assistant program.
She graduated from UW’s second P.A. class in 1978 and has
maintained national certification since then.
Over the years she has held positions in internal medicine,
mental health, family medicine, women’s health, adolescent health,
pain research, pain treatment and integrative holistic medicine.
Since her first P.A. job with Kaiser Permanente, and
throughout her practice in allopathic (Western) medicine, Anna has
studied and integrated various holistic approaches such as
nutrition, relaxation techniques, fitness, and recognition of the
body/mind connection. Patient
education and empowerment has always been a priority, enabling the
individual to take charge of their bodies and lives.
In 1982, Anna began training in traditional Japanese
acupuncture at Kototama Institute under Sensei
Nakazono in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She began practice as
an acupuncturist in Denver, Colorado in 1987
where she apprenticed with Ron Rosen, O.M.D. In 1989, she and her family moved to Prescott, Arizona,
and she has operated the Acupuncture Center of Prescott since then.
She has licenses from the State of Arizona both in
acupuncture and as a physician assistant.
Anna was certified by the
Detoxification Association in 1987. She trained at the county detox unit for indigents in
Portland, Oregon in special acupuncture techniques to help people in
recovery from drug, alcohol, and nicotine addictions.
She has also trained in and practices the Mei Zen Cosmetic
Acupuncture system for facial rejuvenation, i.e., acupuncture
“face lifts”. She
has developed, taught and published on the subject of Colored
Light Therapy, which she incorporates in her practice.
to improve her skills by studying with master
acupuncturists, most recently the Balance Techniques of Dr.
Richard Teh-Fu Tan, O.M.D.
These simple and
powerful Qi balancing methods
often give immediate results.
"I have been in practice as an acupuncturist since 1987, but I have been a health practitioner as a physician assistant since 1978. My passion has always been natural healing, even as a young PA before alternative medicine was "in". So I have extensive experience encompassing both conventional and integrative medicine, and acupuncture. My strengths are in pain management , women's health, allergies, stress conditions and facial rejuvenation.
I prefer not to think of myself as a specialist since I work with the full spectrum of health challenges. I do excel in treatment of pain. My first love is acupuncture. But with my experience in Western medicine, I bring a unique ability to understand and assess health conditions. Of course, first and foremost, is the unity of body and mind."
